HILLSDALE — Hillsdale head coach Amy Gramling is gearing up for a strong season this fall the Hornets ended last season with a 15-26-6 record.

“We kind of fell apart at the tournament last year, and ended up fifth in our league,” Gramling said.

This season, most of Hillsdale’s starting lineup are returners. Gramling said she will be relying heavily on setter Olivia Nolan, hitter Janel Kast, and libero Madison Jones.

“We have a tough league,” Gramling said, “but this year our players have a little experience.”

The Hornets will have their first shot at making Gramling’s goals a reality on Wednesday, Aug. 23, as they face Pittsford and Michigan Center in their annual tri-team competition game.

WALDRON — Waldron head coach Katina Fellabaum wants what every coach wants.

“I’d like to have a winning season this year. Ultimately, everyone’s goal is to win districts and move on,” she said.

Fellabaum said that while last year was not a winning season for Waldron, she is optimistic.

“I believe we’ll have a very strong season. We have two great middle hitters," she said.

One of those middle hitters is returner Claudia Belcher. Another key returner is Kylie Sheffer, who will be setting and senior Emily Emens. The spartans also return senior libero Shelby Fellabaum.

Fellabaum said the team has added “a couple of really good sophomores” including setter Hannah Wines and outside hitter Taylor Long.

Waldron’s new players will have their first chance to prove themselves on Sept. 8, as they go up against Hillsdale Academy in a doubleheader.

CAMDEN — Camden-Frontier will start their volleyball season Saturday, Aug. 20 as they compete in the St. Joe volleyball tournament. If the amount of experience in their lineup is any indicator, they should get off to a strong start.

Head coach Dawn Follis said the team lost no one in-between seasons, except setter Hailey Lawson who will be taking this season off to recover from a softball season injury.

Camden is coming off a losing year, but Follis said she is “expecting a really good season. Our new additions are very athletic.” Those new additions include freshmen Jordan Stump and Francis Churchwell.
