In 1996: The West Ottawa Board of Education wants to build two new schools on 79 acres of blueberry fields off 152nd Avenue if district voters approve a two-part, $49.9 million bond proposal next month. The board unanimously approved options totaling $1.18 million Monday to purchase three contiguous lots between 152nd and Butternut Drive at the intersection of Greenly Street, adjacent to Holiday West Mobile Homes. If voters approve the bond proposal, an elementary school and a middle school for sixth- and seventh-graders would be built on the site, with construction beginning next summer.
