When his ship is sunk by a German U-boat, Harry, Lt. Tom Bradshaw, and a handful of survivors are rescued by an American cruise liner. Bradshaw's death later that evening offers Harry a chance to chuck his past and assume a new identity. But Bradshaw had his own set of problems. He was wanted for murder, and soon the unwitting Harry is convicted and sent to prison. Harry's trials continue in "The Sins of the Father."

Dennis Volkert: As movie ideas go, 'Battleship' is hit or miss

"Battleship” is now in theaters. Just to clarify: I’m talking about the movie. If you want to play the game itself, there are better places than a facility with dimmed lights and high-priced (albeit delicious) popcorn.

Movie review: Imbecility sinks ‘Battleship’

I didn’t think I would ever see a film more moronic than “Transformers,” a movie based on a toy. Then along comes “Battleship,” a movie based on a board game that’s so waterlogged it has barnacles for brains.

Morning Jolt: Escaped penguin enjoying life

A penguin that ran away from a zoo in Tokyo earlier this year by climbing a 13-foot wall recently was spotted in Tokyo Bay. Kazuhiro Sakamoto of the Tokyo Sea Life Park said, "It didn't look like it has gotten thinner over the past two months, or been without food. It doesn't seem to be any weaker. So it looks as if it's been living quite happily in the middle of Tokyo Bay." Officials feared the penguin would be hit by a ship or not be able to find enough food, but it has outsmarted them all by surviving – and has continued to elude capture.

Movie review: ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’ is as expected

Morning Jolt: Haunted home for seniors?

An abandoned hospital in Los Angeles that is believed by many to be haunted will be transformed into a senior home. The Linda Vista Community Hospital – which is so creepy that it is often used in movies – has been the site of numerous ghost reportings over the years. Amcal Multi-Housing Inc. says the stories are just urban legends and will change the facility to senior housing in the near future.

Stay Tuned: 'Veep' is fun politics

HBO's new comedy “Veep” will probably not inspire you, but it will make you laugh. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is Selina Meyer, the well-meaning vice president who, along with her equally well-meaning but bumbling staff, is trying to navigate the stormy seas of Washington politics without sinking. Selina wants to be an agent of change in perhaps the most ineffectual political office in the American government. It's a good set-up for laughs, and Louis-Dreyfus puts her talent for physical comedy to good use.
