“Esoteric” is the word Lacoste Gallery uses to describe the work of Mark Pharis, which will be showcased in an upcoming exhibit.


His pieces are subtle, with more than first meets the eye in its elegant lines and simple practicality.


Pharis, a faculty member at the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota, made the pieces while on leave last year, in the hopes that the works will reflect new ideas – both in  form and surface.


“Mark Pharis: Solo Exhibition” is on view Aug. 22 through Sept. 13 at Lacoste Gallery, 25 Main St., Concord. Reception: Saturday, Aug. 22, 3 to 5 p.m.; gallery talk Sunday, Aug. 23, 2 p.m. Admission is free.
